Something for everyone …

From walking to wildlife, and shopping to sightseeing, whatever your interests, you’re sure to be spoilt for choice in West Cornwall for places to see, attractions to visit and breathtaking natural scenery.

If you haven’t got a car, getting around is still easy thanks to the coastal St Ives Bay Line. Here are just a few recommendations for places well worth a visit, and within easy reach from the Lamorna Lodge

  • Heading for the beach? – Local beaches we’d recommend naturally include those at Carbis Bay and St Ives, whose sparkling clear seas and pale sands are matched by those further afield at Perranporth or Sennen. For watersports and surfing, you can ride the waves and Atlantic swells at Porthmeor Beach, St Ives, whilst families with small children will love the soft sands and safe swimming at Porthminster, St Ives.

  • Want to stretch your legs? – The South West Coastal Footpath runs 130 miles taking in coastal valleys, towns and villages. Experienced walkers will be spoilt for choice whilst manageable day walks or shorter excursions can be made by those who just want to take in the views, the fresh air and work off that pasty lunch! Inland too, Cornwall has a great network of footpaths enjoyed by walkers.

  • Want to see wildlife? – If you’re keen on wildlife, West Cornwall is one of the best districts in England for sea life and marine life: grey seals, cliff-nesting seabirds, dolphins, even harbour porpoises are a regular sight. Try and spot “Beaky’ the dolphin if you take a boat out to St Michael’s Mount!

  • Just ask, we’re happy to help – Remember, if you’d like further information about the above-mentioned places and more, such as the Eden Project, Lands End, Rick Stein’s Restaurant, we’ll be happy to advise you and point you in the right direction. Just ask at Reception for leaflets and more details. We’ll do our utmost to make your stay as pleasurable as possible.

Carbis Bay

Step out from our hotel and within minutes you’re at the most sheltered part of St Ives Bay. Carbis Bay extends south from St Ives and is named after the Carbis Valley.

St Ives

With its narrow cobbled streets, St Ives has a Mediterranean feel, but a distinct Cornish flavour. Amble past (and into!) galleries, craft shops, harbour cafes and restaurants galore.

Lelant

The attractive neighbouring village of Lelant nestles in the sheltered Hayle Estuary. Many a visitor comes to see its striking Norman church of St Uny and St Anta.

St Erth

As traditionally Cornish as you could wish for, with a picturesque church and quintessential cottages. Stop for a drink at the Star Inn on the village square, or take a pleasant walk along the river.

Penzance

On the shores of Mount Bay, the ancient market town of Penzance has stunning St Michaels Mount as its backdrop. Here you’ll discover great shopping, café culture and eating-out.
